Embark on a journey to the heart of Mongolia, where vast steppe landscapes meet rugged mountains and ancient traditions blend with the thrill of adventure.
From the bustling capital of Ulaanbaatar to the Suman River Valley, our expertly crafted tour invites you to experience the magic of Mongolia in its purest form.
Local guides take us through endless grasslands, and set up our bell tents camp under a blanket of stars. Immerse yourself in the nomadic culture that has defined this land for centuries, all while taking your paraglider along for the journey.
Join us for an unforgettable adventure that will leave you captivated by Mongolia's untamed beauty and rich heritage.
The 31st of July and 11th of August are used as travel days. Most flights from the west coast of the USA go through Bejing. Be sure to apply for a 72 hour visa with China incase of needing to lay over on either end of your travel.
Double and Single Bell Tents are available. If you wish to have a tent to yourself, there is an additional $500 charge. Please ask for availability.
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be provided each day and will be cooked by our fantastic local chefs.
Our accommodation has freshly prepared and varied food served daily for breakfast and dinner along with water, juices, coffee and other beverages.
Our first and last night in Ulaanbaatar will be in a local hotel within the city.
We will be traveling to multiple sites throughout the tour. Visiting Terkhyn Tsagaan Lake and the Selenge river valley, we will get to see the true Mongolia and live nomadically who populate its vast landscapes.
Getting around Mongolia is no easy task. We will have Toyota Land Cruisers to get around the country. This tour involves a fair amount of driving, but with as large as the country is, it is the only way to access the heart of the country. 2-3 pilots will be in each Land Cruiser, allowing ample space.
After breakfast, we begin our overland journey towards Kharakhorum (5 hours driving).
En route, visit Mongol Els, one of world’s most northerly located sand dunes located next to the Hogno Han National Park. After a picnic lunch, continue driving and reach our ger camp in Kharakhorum in time for dinner. Along the way we'll visit Erdenezuu
monastery where the capital city of the Great Mongolian Empire once stood.
The construction of the original Kharakhorum city was completed during
Ogedei Khan, Chinggis Khan’s third son who inherited the empire his father
created after his death in 1228. It’s located within a beautiful valley of
Orkhon river, which bears hundreds of historically and archeologically
significant sites, awaiting its unlocking, including 2000 years old burials,
deer stones (believed to a form of burial) and ruins of cities pre-dating the
time of Chinggis Khan (contrary to the popular spelling of “Genghis Khan” in
the west, the correct pronunciation of his name among Mongolians is
Chinggis Khan ). Its’ remnants were used in the construction of Mongolia’s
largest Buddhist Monastery Erdenezuu, erected on its’ place, which stands
today.
On our flying days we will be using drive up locations. However because of the vast openness Mongolia has to offer we may be able to explore other launch areas, especially in the mornings for those who are willing to hike. This is an added benefit of the tour, and not part of the typical day. Having a light weight kit with you is a great idea, or even bringing a second glider like an Ozone Ultralite 5 is a fantastica idea.
The currency used in Mongolia is the Tugrik
(MNT). It has been fairly steady at 3300-3500: 1USD for the last 2 years. We recommend pulling out no more than $500 USD for souvenirs and small purchases during your stay. This can be done at the airport or at and ATM in the capital.
Most cell carrier networks will work in the country. Please check with your cell phone provider for the exact rates. Alternatively, you can choose to get a local SIM card if you prefer, which we will provide. Cell service can be spotty in the remote areas.
All pilots are required to bring a 2M Radio.
We highly recommend having a Garmin Inreach on this tour as well.
August has pleasant weather and stunning colorful landscapes. The temperature remains warm, ranging from +25°C (77F) to +38°C (100F) during daytime and +8°C(46F) to +20°C(68f) at nights
This time of year is usually quite dry, but still can produce rain showers in the afternoon.
