Mojave Desert

This 3 or 10 day tour is designed for anyone who is wanting to unlock the secrets of how to fly the desert confidently and to practice efficient team flying.

Our goal each day is to fly as far as possible downwind.  100km - 280km have been flown historically during this time of year. 

We ask that you come with solid launching and landing skills needed for  a desert environment. Strong, switching, and unpredictable cycles are common.  An understanding of how to find and map thermals on your own is a must. Having done an SIV is mandatory, and we may ask for peer/mentor references before sign ups are permitted.

Keeping the group together in a gaggle for efficiency and safety is a primary goal.  If you are looking to use this as a "thermal clinic" we suggest you book a tour in a location where our 3:1 ratio is offered. If more than 10 pilots book, a 3rd guide will be added with a max of 12 pilots allowed.

Historically the middle of May has offered up some of the best flying we have seen.  You can expect strong, but smooth thermals out over the desert flat lands. With a 15,000 foot cloud base, your AGL is 12,000 ft. and more in most places.

With multiple sites to chose from, we are flexible each day to give you the best chance to tie into the infamous convergence lines that lead across the desert. This clinic is based out of Hesperia, CA. We recommend getting a hotel or campsite  for the week, but booking on a daily basis incase we need to move the group. For those of you looking to camp, there are plenty of spots in the desert to post up.

If we encounter unfavorable weather we will move the group to other locations in the Southern California area for distance flying.

To secure your space for a 3 day clinic, payment must be made in full at time of booking. For the 10 day clinic a $1000 deposit is required to hold your space.  

Deposits are non-refundable UNLESS a suitable replacement is found for your space. Final payment of $1295 is due no later than April 15th.
