The Experience

Santiago de Cuba is a vibrant and historically significant city located on the southeastern coast of the island of Cuba. It is the second-largest city in the country, and serves as the capital of the province. Known as the "Heroic City" for its role in the Cuban Revolution, Santiago de Cuba holds great cultural, political, and musical importance.

Located 30 minutes from the city center, our launch in Puerto Boniato, serves as the main flying arena for the week. A south facing launch located on a 30km ridge provides opportunities for mid day cross country to the famous religious site, El Cobre. Or going over the back and flying open distance over the vast agricultural flat lands of the island. In the evenings we are able to take advantage of the sea breeze and smooth thermal conditions for sunset soaring.

Our Cuba paragliding tour will connect you with the island like no other. Local pilots will join us for each day of our tour. Meeting all the requirements for the "support of the Cuban people" OFAC license.

Accommodation

2 blocks from Plaza Marte and 7 blocks from Parque Cespedes. Our accommodation puts you in the heart of the city. Short walks to museums, restaurants, dance clubs are sure to keep you busy during the non flying hours

Each room will have air conditioning and the lobby will have Wi-Fi readily available.

Breakfast will be provided each day. Fresh fruit, tea, Cuban Coffee and eggs to order will prepare you for the flying day ahead.

Dinners are not included with this tour. There are a number of wonderful restaurants close by that will offer you the chance to explore the city on your own. This also puts less stress on those pilots who wish to enjoy the soaring around sunset. Fly until your heart desires or the sun goes down!

We will have a local city guide to take us through the historical sites that Santiago de Cuba has to offer. Having this special connection via our city guide gives you perspective for your week in Cuba.

One of the iconic landmarks in Santiago de Cuba is the Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, also known as El Morro. This 17th-century fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers breathtaking views of the city, the harbor, and the Caribbean Sea.

Santiago de Cuba offers a fascinating blend of history, culture, music, and fantastic flying conditions. Its lively atmosphere, welcoming people, and significant historical sites make it an excellent destination for paragliders interested in experiencing the authentic spirit of Cuba.

While Verizon and T Mobile work in the country, the service is spotty and LTE coverage is unreliable. For this reason we will be providing each pilot with their local phone and sim card.

Weather

US Travel to Cuba

US Travel to Cuba

Cuba is a fairly warm this time of year. Cloud base can be in the 50's if we are getting over 6000 feet and it can heat up to a very humid 90 on the surface.

A nice pair of comfortable clothes for day time city tours or evening dancing is a must. It is not uncommon to see long pants for the gentlemen and dresses for the ladies in the evening.

Giving Back

Traveling with Convergence involves forming meaningful connections not only with the places we visit but also with their people.

A portion of your purchase directly supports the local pilots in the areas we explore. Each year, we donate brand new glider(s) to the local community and facilitate the procurement of numerous used wings and harnesses.

Additionally, we coordinate donations for the local elementary school near our takeoff points, provide medicines for the families of local pilots, and support the communities adjacent to our landing zones.

Convergence and Cuba

Cuba is a fascinating and complex country with a rich history and culture. Located in the Caribbean Sea, just south of the United States, Cuba is the largest island in the region and has a population of over 11 million people.

The country has a socialist government and a mixed economy that is heavily influenced by the state. Cuba is known for its vibrant music and dance culture, its colorful colonial architecture,  its beautiful beaches, and now it will be known for its paragliding.

Our owner and founder, Chris Garcia, has extensive experience within Cuba. Not only is he a first generation Cuban American, he also developed the first sea kayaking tour for American travelers in 2015. Chris has designed and tailored tours across the island.

Chris' experience on the island dealing directly with the government, the Cuban people and the dynamic environment of the Cuban tourist industry, has led the path to what now is the first Support For The Cuban People, Cuba Paragliding Tour.
